Joel H. Brown is a founding partner and member of SW Florida Probate Trial Lawyers.  Attorney Brown litigates complex probate, estate and inheritance related conflicts and disputes.  He is a highly respected trial lawyer who was elected by his colleagues to serve as Chief Judge of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court in Florida from February 2009 until April 2013, when he reentered the private practice of law.  Attorney Brown was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1971 and practiced as a civil trial attorney for 19 years.  In 1990, he was appointed to the Dade County Court by then Governor Bob Martinez and was subsequently appointed to the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court in Florida by Governor Lawton Chiles. 

Distinguished Background

Attorney Brown is a native of Florida and grew up in Miami Beach.  He earned his law degree from the University of Florida, College of Law and served as a member of the U.S. Army Reserve from 1969 to 1975.  Attorney Brown has earned board certification from the Florida Bar as an expert in Civil Trial and is AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell. He has attained a "10 - Superb Rating" on Avvo, a highly respected national Attorney rating website. During the course of his career, he has received numerous honors and awards, including the Award of Excellence from the Dade County Bar Association and the Paver Award from the Cuban American Bar Association. Attorney Brown has been named a Best Lawyer and a South Florida Legal Guide "Top Lawyer." He has also taught classes and lectured on a wide range of legal topics to a multitude of professional groups and legal organizations.

Throughout his legal career, Joel H. Brown has been an active member of numerous national, state, local and professional organizations, including the Dade County Justice Association, the Florida Justice Association and the Dade County Bar Association.
